Morgan L. Montoya
Esq |Associate Attorney
Morgan is joining the firm’s Sacramento office lead by partner and family law attorney Jason Hopper Esq., representing clients in Sacramento, Placer, Contra Costa, and the surrounding counties in Northern California.
“My clients often express a myriad of emotions when they first meet with me to discuss their family law matter,” Morgan said. “Pain, disappointment, confusions – it can be difficult wading through heightened emotions while trying to navigate legal matters. I remind my clients that they can take a deep breath knowing I am looking out for their best interest.”
Montoya’s undergraduate degree in psychology with an emphasis in early childhood development from UC Berkeley makes her a particularly compelling and effective advocate in child custody and visitation disputes.
Montoya received her Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.
Before embarking on her family law career, Morgan grew up in Nevada County. She is a dedicated wife and mother, has a fondness for the outdoors, enjoys glamping (outdoor camping with amenities and comforts), Sunday brunch, red wine, interior design, and crafting with her children.
Depth of Experience
Morgan began her legal career as a law clerk for the Children’s Law Center of Sacramento in 2013. While there, she worked with the supervising attorney to help abused and neglected children in Sacramento County. She tirelessly researched the law, child welfare outcome statistics, and services for at-risk youth in the foster care system.
She went on to a judicial clerkship for the Honorable Michael Isaku-Begert, a Superior Court judge in San Francisco. She participated in court proceedings and drafted court orders for the Law & Motion calendar, among other duties.
As a law student, she interned for Emley Law Office, LLP in San Francisco, where she appeared on behalf of clients in dissolution of marriage proceedings and child custody/support modification proceedings.
After passing the bar, Morgan secured employment as an associate family law attorney, attorney at law, and litigation associate at several firms in the Sacramento area.
“We all experience challenges that at times can feel out of our control,” Montoya said. “I find it rewarding to assist my clients in maintaining control of their own happiness and staying focused on the future that they want to create.”
She volunteers with the California Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which helps children and youth in the foster care system receive needed services.
Morgan has shown her passion for family law from her early involvement as a law clerk and judicial clerk before attending law school as well as her active volunteer work with CASA.
Morgan’s previous years of experience from various sides of the family court judicial process have added an extra depth of experience to her family law skill set on top of her knowledge as a family law attorney.
